Speaker Koon Set to Deliver First Legislative Report in Four Years Amid Mixed Reactions from District #11 Residents

By Myean D Torgbean

Residents of Electoral District #11 in Montserrado County are expected to gather today, May 16, as House Speaker and District Representative Richard Nagbe Koon prepares to present what many citizens describe as his first formal legislative report since taking office four years ago.

In a public statement issued ahead of the gathering, Speaker Koon called on residents and stakeholders of the district to attend the event, which he said is intended to provide updates on legislative activities, development initiatives, and future plans for the constituency.

“Fellow citizens and residents of District #11, I warmly invite you today May 16, 2026, to attend our Annual Legislative Report as we reflect on the progress made, discuss ongoing development initiatives, and outline the way forward for our district,” Koon stated. “Your presence and participation are important as we continue working together for a stronger and better District 11.”

The announcement has since generated intense debate across social media platforms, with several residents expressing both anticipation and frustration over the long-awaited report.

Some citizens welcomed the move but demanded accountability and transparency from the lawmaker.

“After four years, the Representative of District 11 Richard Nagbe Koon has seen the need to report to we the people of District #11, and I will be there because I need a hard copy of the report so I can digest and explain it in detail,” resident Hannah F. Saah wrote online.

Others, however, criticized the Speaker, accusing him of neglecting the district and failing to remain connected with constituents during his tenure.

“Today, the people of District 11 will reject the so-called district report of Richard Nagbe Koon. The district report program will have poor attendance because the people are angry about being betrayed and abandoned since 2022,” another resident, Melvin Moore, stated.

Additional comments circulating online reflected growing public dissatisfaction, with some residents accusing the Speaker of poor leadership and lack of visible development in the district.

“He’s about to go lie to the people of District 11,” one social media user, identified as Godwin Blasin, alleged, while another resident, Ambassador Abraham N. Suah, described the Speaker’s leadership as “a mess to our community.”

The legislative report comes at a politically sensitive time as public scrutiny over accountability, constituency engagement, and community development continues to intensify across several electoral districts in Liberia.

Political observers say the outcome of today’s gathering could shape public perception of Speaker Koon’s leadership ahead of future political engagements and may also test the level of confidence residents still have in his administration.
