Senator Edwin Melvin Snowe, Jr. has formally called on the Liberian Senate to summon the Minister of Labour for a comprehensive account of the 70,000 jobs reportedly created in 2025. In a letter dated January 27, 2026, addressed to Senate President Pro-Tempore Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, Snowe commended President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. for his employment initiative but emphasized the need for transparency and legislative oversight.
Referencing the President’s State of the Nation Address delivered on January 26, Snowe described the employment figures as a significant national undertaking. He urged the Senate to seek clarity on the nature, duration, and sectoral distribution of the jobs, stressing that such details are vital for assessing the initiative’s impact on livelihoods and economic growth.
As Chairman of the Senate’s Energy, Hydrocarbon & Environment Committee and Head of Liberia’s ECOWAS Parliamentary Delegation, Snowe’s request signals a push for data-driven governance and accountability. The Legislature is expected to act on the request in its upcoming sessions.
