Senator Moye Urges Respect for Judicial Independence

GBARNGA, Bong County – May 11, 2026 – Bong County Senator and Chairman of the Bong County Legislative Caucus, Prince Kermue Moye Sr., has called on political leaders and lawmakers across Liberia to respect the independence of the judiciary and avoid interference in court matters.
Speaking on behalf of the Bong County Legislative Caucus during the opening of the May Term of Court on Monday, May 11, in Gbarnga, Senator Moye said members of the caucus have stepped away from any form of political involvement in the operations of the Judiciary Branch of Government.
According to him, lawmakers must uphold the rule of law and allow the courts to operate freely and independently.
“We respect the rule of law, and every member of the caucus understands the importance of allowing the judiciary to operate independently,” Senator Moye stated.

The Bong County lawmaker also disclosed plans to work with relevant authorities to ensure adequate funding for the judiciary to improve its operations across the country.
Senator Moye noted that proper budgetary support to the justice system is necessary for effective justice delivery and to maintain public confidence in the courts.
His comments follow concerns raised by newly assigned Ninth Judicial Circuit Court Judge, Joe S. Barkon, who warned that political interference continues to affect actors within the judicial system.
Judge Barkon made the statement during the opening of the May A.D. 2026 Term of the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court and Criminal Court “E” in Bong County.

He stressed the need for all branches of government and political actors to respect the independence of the judiciary, noting that interference in judicial matters weakens public trust in the justice system.
The judge further emphasized that a strong and independent judiciary remains important in ensuring fairness, accountability, and justice for all citizens.
