MONROVIA – The Liberian Senate has successfully mediated and resolved a dispute between the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL) and the Liberia Petroleum Regulatory Authority (LPRA), a move aimed at safeguarding stability and investor confidence in the country’s emerging petroleum sector.

The Senate’s intervention followed growing concerns that the disagreement between the two institutions could create uncertainty within the oil and gas industry and potentially discourage both local and international investment.

During a closed-door engagement with representatives of NOCAL and LPRA, lawmakers facilitated discussions focused on fostering cooperation and ensuring that both institutions work collectively in the national interest.

As part of the resolution, NOCAL will continue carrying out its reconnaissance and exploratory activities, while the Senate undertakes a review of existing petroleum legislation to address areas where legal mandates and responsibilities may require greater clarity.

The agreement also reaffirms LPRA’s role as the country’s petroleum sector regulator, with both entities expected to engage in further consultations aimed at strengthening collaboration and preventing future institutional conflicts.

Senators emphasized the importance of maintaining a transparent and predictable regulatory environment to support Liberia’s efforts to attract investment and advance the development of its oil and gas resources.

Meanwhile the Senate’s action represents a significant step toward preserving stability in the petroleum sector and reinforcing confidence among investors and stakeholders interested in Liberia’s energy future.
