Sackie Urges Bong Lawmakers to Prioritize Feeder Road Pavement

By: Emmett S. Yarsiah Jr., Bong County Correspondent

Former District Five Representative aspirant, Doloyuwah M. Sackie, has called on lawmakers of Bong County to shift their focus from the continuous rehabilitation of roads to the pavement of feeder roads across the county.

Speaking via telephone from Monrovia on Monday, Sackie emphasized the need for more durable and long-term road solutions. He urged county leaders to move beyond routine road repairs and consider cement pavement as a sustainable alternative that can withstand harsh weather conditions.

According to Sackie, paving roads would significantly reduce the need for repeated rehabilitation, particularly after each rainy season, and provide lasting benefits for residents. He noted that even paving a single kilometer of road with the available resources could make a meaningful difference in improving connectivity.

Sackie also highlighted the availability of local resources, pointing out that rocks from the Gbartala mining site have been used in major international road projects over the years. However, he expressed concern that the same resources have not been effectively utilized to develop and connect key feeder roads within Bong County.

His statement comes in the wake of a recent groundbreaking ceremony for the rehabilitation of the Gbartala–Fenutolee Road. The project is being led by Representative Eugine J.M. Kollie in collaboration with Senators Prince Kermue Moye Sr. and Johnny K. Kpehe Sr.

Sackie believes that with proper planning and commitment, Bong County can transition to more reliable road infrastructure that will better serve its communities for years to come.
