Representative Briggs’ Strong Statement Sparks Speculation of Indirect Attack on Cummings

Representative Moima Briggs Mensah has ignited fresh political debate following a strongly worded public statement many observers believe was directed at ANC opposition leader Alexander B. Cummings over an apparent internal political dispute involving the treatment of a loyal female ally.
In a lengthy social media post, the lawmaker broke her silence on what she described as the sidelining of a woman who had “stood on the frontlines” defending a political figure during difficult times, only to allegedly be abandoned when support was needed in return.
“Silence does not mean blindness,” Representative Briggs wrote, questioning whether loyalty is only valued “when it is convenient.”
Though she did not mention any individual by name, political commentators and supporters on social media quickly interpreted the message as an indirect criticism of Mr. Cummings, particularly regarding an unfilled position and the perceived marginalization of a female supporter believed to have played a key role in previous political battles.
The lawmaker accused political actors of applauding women when they are “useful” but sidelining them once they become influential or powerful.
“Too often, women are expected to defend, to sacrifice, to endure but never to rise,” she stated.
Rep. Briggs further declared that women in politics are becoming more strategic and intentional, warning that loyalty would no longer be unconditional.
“The era of using women’s loyalty as political insurance is over,” she wrote. “Support will be strategic, not sentimental.”

Her comments have since generated widespread reactions online, with many praising her for speaking boldly about the treatment of women in politics, while others viewed the statement as a clear sign of growing tensions within opposition circles.
The statement also emphasized accountability and leadership, with Briggs asserting that “real men take accountability” and that true strength is shown through responsibility rather than rhetoric.
Political analysts say the remarks could deepen ongoing conversations about gender inclusion, political loyalty, and internal power dynamics within Liberia’s opposition community ahead of future political engagements.
As of press time, neither Mr. Cummings nor his associates had publicly responded to the remarks made by Representative Briggs.
