MONROVIA – The Liberia National Police (LNP), in collaboration with the Press Union of Liberia (PUL), has launched a two-day Security Media Relations Training Workshop aimed at strengthening cooperation and understanding between law enforcement officers and media practitioners.

Held under the theme, “Strengthening Police-Media Partnership: Understanding Police Administration for Responsible Public Safety Reporting and National Security,” the workshop brings together police officers, journalists, and communication professionals to enhance collaboration in public safety reporting and national security communication.

Providing an overview of the training, Assistant Commissioner of Police Blessing Myers said the initiative seeks to deepen participants’ understanding of police administration, security operations, and the media’s critical role in ensuring accurate, balanced, and responsible reporting on security-related issues.

According to Myers, improved cooperation between the police and the media is essential to promoting public confidence, transparency, and effective dissemination of information during security incidents and emergencies.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Press Union of Liberia President Julius Kanubah emphasized the importance of a constructive relationship between the media and law enforcement institutions.

Kanubah noted that both institutions play vital roles in safeguarding democracy and maintaining public trust, stressing that responsible journalism and effective police communication are indispensable in ensuring citizens receive timely, factual, and reliable information.

He urged journalists and police officers to continue building mutual respect and understanding in the interest of national development and public safety.

Meanwhile, Deputy Inspector General of Police for Administration, William Mulbah, speaking on behalf of Inspector General Gregory Coleman, described the workshop as a fulfillment of a commitment made by the Police Chief during this year’s observance of World Press Freedom Day.

Mulbah reaffirmed the LNP’s commitment to fostering stronger ties with the media, noting that enhanced collaboration would contribute significantly to transparency, accountability, and improved public awareness on security matters.

The training features presentations, panel discussions, and interactive sessions designed to strengthen communication channels between the police and the media while addressing challenges commonly encountered in reporting security-related issues.

Participants are expected to gain practical insights into police operations, crisis communication, ethical reporting standards, and strategies for promoting responsible public safety journalism.
