Monrovia, Liberia – February 5, 2026 — Liberians from all walks of life are expected to gather on Tuesday, February 11, 2026, to honor the life, leadership, and enduring national legacy of the late Professor Alhaji G. V. Kromah, one of Liberia’s most respected patriots, public intellectuals, and advocates for democratic governance and national unity.
The Public Memorial Service and Legacy Celebration will be held at 12:00 noon at the ALCOP Operational Office (Aluminum Factory) along Somalia Drive in Gardnerville, Monrovia. The event will bring together citizens across political, ethnic, and religious lines to reflect on the remarkable contributions of a man whose service to Liberia spanned decades.

Professor Kromah was widely regarded as a towering figure in Liberia’s public life, known for his rare blend of scholarship, principled leadership, and unwavering commitment to national service. His distinguished career cut across journalism, education, public administration, diplomacy, sports development, and transitional governance during some of the country’s most defining moments.
A seasoned journalist and educator, Professor Kromah served in several high-profile government roles, including Special Assistant to former Vice President Bennie D. Warner, Assistant Minister of Information under President William R. Tolbert, Director-General of the Liberia Broadcasting System in 1982, and later Minister of Information under President Samuel K. Doe in 1984. Through these positions, he played a pivotal role in shaping public communication and national consciousness.
In academia, he left an indelible mark as Chairman of the Mass Communications Department at the University of Liberia, where he mentored generations of journalists and communicators who continue to influence Liberia’s media landscape today.
Professor Kromah also served the nation during its transitional period as Vice Chairman of the Council of State of the Liberian National Transitional Government (LNTG), contributing to national stabilization efforts in a fragile post-conflict era.
Beyond politics and academia, he was a strong advocate for youth empowerment and national unity through sports, notably serving as President of the Mighty Barrolle Sports Association, where he promoted athletics as a vehicle for discipline, unity, and national pride.
The memorial event is being organized by the Professor Alhaji G. V. Kromah Memorial Service and Legacy Celebration Group and will feature interfaith prayers, tributes, and reflections highlighting his enduring contributions to Liberia’s democratic evolution, media development, and national identity.
Members of the public are encouraged to attend in solidarity and respect. Seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, and all established protocols of remembrance will be strictly observed.
Professor Alhaji G. V. Kromah’s legacy, organizers say, transcends generations and divisions, standing as a lasting testament to principled leadership, service above self, and the power of ideas in shaping a nation’s destiny.
