Washington, D.C., October 17, 2025 — Liberia has taken another major step in strengthening its long-standing partnership with the United States, following a high-level strategic dialogue held at the White House between Liberia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Madam Sara Beysolow Nyanti, and U.S. Secretary of State and Acting National Security Advisor, Mr. Marco Rubio, on October 16.

The meeting, hosted in the West Wing, reaffirmed both nations’ commitment to deepening cooperation in areas of economic development, migration reform, and strategic investment.

Building on the diplomatic progress from President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s landmark visit to President Donald Trump in July 2025, Minister Nyanti emphasized Liberia’s readiness to strengthen its partnership with the U.S. in advancing critical infrastructure, responsible mineral development, and fair mobility frameworks.

“This government is determined to turn Liberia’s natural wealth into shared prosperity for all Liberians,” Minister Nyanti said, highlighting Liberia’s stability, democratic credentials, and reform-driven agenda as the foundation for responsible U.S. investment.

Secretary Rubio commended Liberia’s proactive engagement and reaffirmed America’s commitment to expanding economic and diplomatic collaboration. He also praised the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) for supporting infrastructure programs that align with both U.S. investment priorities and Liberia’s national development strategy.

Migration reform was a central focus of the discussions. Minister Nyanti briefed Secretary Rubio on Liberia’s Presidential Taskforce on U.S. Immigration Issues, noting the country’s ongoing efforts to address visa and mobility challenges. In response, Secretary Rubio confirmed the U.S. government’s intention to restore visa reciprocity for Liberian citizens, citing the country’s progress in governance and transparency.

This latest engagement follows Minister Nyanti’s participation in a U.S. policy forum in late September, where she joined Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau to discuss Africa’s regional migration and mobility issues. There, she emphasized the need for shared responsibility and mutual respect in developing fair and inclusive migration policies.

“This engagement with the United States is not only a diplomatic success; it is a victory for every Liberian who believes in a future defined by opportunity, dignity, and progress,” Minister Nyanti said after the White House meeting.

The talks concluded with an agreement to enhance Liberia’s institutional capacity to manage migration and related security challenges, and to explore mechanisms for leveraging critical minerals into sustainable job creation and economic growth.

The Government of Liberia expressed gratitude for the renewed confidence shown by the United States Government and pledged to advance this new chapter of cooperation anchored in shared values, peace, and prosperity.
