Liberia’s Ambassador-at-Large, Sheikh Al-Moustapha Kouyateh, has written a strong worded letter to Liberian leader Joseph Boakai, informing the president of his decision to not apologize for words he believes – did not accuse the legislature but instead questioned their operatives with concession agreements and how it benefits European more, than suffering Liberians.

In his communication dated May 29, 2026, the Ambassador for special duties and presidential envoy, noted, he received a directive from the House of Representatives requesting that he appear on OK FM and apologize to the August body for four days, publish apologies on four dailies (newspapers) effectively retracting statements made, which prompted his invitation to the executive committee public hearing.

He furthered, he would not retract his previous apologies made to the House of Representatives and that he remains conscious of the president’s decision and his agenda which supports transparency, accountability and the rule of law.

Amid presidential decisions to verify the ambassador’s statements by the president before publication moving forward, as stated by the Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, Kouyateh maintained his right to freedom of speech remains untouchable and intact, especially when he is not on official duties, signaling a strong commitment to his right as a Liberian and diplomat.

He also noted, he remains steadfast and accepts any consequences that comes after his stands and decision to not retract his statement.
