Bong County, May 22, 2026_As part of the ongoing Nationwide Environmental Compliance Monitoring Exercise, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of Liberia has ordered the shutdown of Huiren Mining Inc. for multiple environmental violations discovered during an inspection conducted.
The enforcement action followed the issuance of several non-compliance notices after EPA inspectors established that the company was operating in violation of key provisions of Liberia’s Environmental Protection and Management Law (EPML) and the Chemical Importation, Transportation, Handling and Storage Guidelines.
Among the major violations identified were the company’s operation under an expired Environmental Permit, improper management and storage of obsolete and hazardous chemicals, and failure to obtain the required Chemical Registration and Importation License.

According to the EPA, Huiren Mining Inc. continued operations without a valid Environmental Permit and failed to renew the permit as required by law. The agency warned that operating under an expired permit exposes public health and the environment to adverse impacts and constitutes a punishable offense under the EPML.
The inspection team also discovered obsolete, expired, and hazardous chemicals being improperly stored and managed on the company’s premises. The EPA noted that the continued storage, handling, use, or disposal of such chemicals without proper authorization poses serious risks to public health, occupational safety, groundwater, surface water, and surrounding communities.
Additionally, investigators found that the company was importing, storing, handling, transporting, and utilizing chemicals without obtaining the mandatory Chemical Registration and Importation License required under Liberian environmental regulations. The EPA described the practice as an unlawful environmental activity that threatens ecological safety and violates hazardous chemical management standards.
As a result of these violations, the EPA issued multiple non-compliance notices directing the company to immediately halt all unauthorized chemical-related activities, secure hazardous substances in environmentally safe storage facilities, and engage the EPA to address the identified deficiencies.

The agency further warned that failure to comply would result in additional enforcement measures, including seizure of hazardous materials, suspension of operations, administrative sanctions, confiscation of chemicals, and legal proceedings.
Following the findings and the company’s continued non-compliance, the EPA ordered the immediate shutdown of Huiren Mining Inc. pending full compliance with Liberia’s environmental laws and regulations.
The action underscores the EPA’s commitment to enforcing environmental standards across the country and sends a strong message that no company or individual is above the Environmental Protection and Management Law of Liberia.
