PRESS STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Revolutionary National Youth League – CDC Condemns Arson attack on STAND Headquarters, Demands Independent Investigation.

The Revolutionary National Youth League of the Congress for Democratic Change (RN-YL/CDC) vehemently condemns the alleged state-sponsored arson attack on the headquarters of the civil society organization, STAND-Liberia, and calls for an immediate, independent investigation.

The Youth League is gravely concerned that this attack occurred amidst STAND-Liberia’s planned nationwide protest demanding that President Boakai “Lead or Leave.” We believe that the organization’s headquarters was set ablaze by elements allegedly acting under the instruction of Police Inspector General Gregory Coleman and LPRC Managing Director (and Unity Party Secretary General) Amos Tweah.

We are extremely baffled that the administration’s only solution for leading this country is to reign terror on peaceful citizens and civil rights organizations through such barbaric means. We refuse to believe that the dark days of terror and political intimidation have returned, and that dictatorship is taking root in our country, where political dissent is no longer a constitutional right but is treated as a death sentence.

The Youth League stands in unwavering solidarity with STAND-Liberia and all civil society organizations defending our democracy and the interests of the ordinary masses. We strongly believe this state-orchestrated arson attack—allegedly led by Inspector General Coleman and Mr. Tweah—is intended to intimidate STAND-Liberia into abandoning their planned nationwide protest slated for December 17, 2025.

Gone are the days when ruling establishments sponsored mercenaries or thugs to intimidate opposition or civil society organizations exposing the wretchedness of the regime and its actors. If President Boakai cannot lead our country by respecting the tenets of our democracy, then it is fair enough to leave. We will emphatically reject any form of creeping dictatorship that attempts to silence civil society organizations and the opposition through state-sponsored attacks.

Mr. Boakai and his administration have failed massively to govern our state and provide a conducive living environment for the ordinary people. After two years of Mr. Boakai’s stewardship: Liberia is ranked 135th out of 180 countries on the Corruption Perception Index (CPI), Liberia is ranked as the 9th poorest country globally, with the vast majority of citizens living below the poverty line and remains one of the most unsafe places to live, with the U.S. State Department maintaining a Level 2 advisory (“Exercise Increased Caution”) due to crime, including armed robbery.

We admonish President Boakai that history is not always kind to those who view political dissent as a taboo and resort to tyranny. Many tyrants have seen their early political demise due to scenarios identical to those currently being perpetrated by this administration, by utilizing state resources from institutions like the LPRC.

President Boakai must be reminded that the people’s power is greater than any state-sponsored terror. When the people are fed up, nothing can stop their resolve. Furthermore, given the events across the sub-region, where populations increasingly look to the military for leadership due to bad governance and corruption, Liberia is no exception. As Mr. Boakai continues to run a state that offers only corruption, political intimidation, abuse of human rights, and poverty, the objective conditions will soon propel the people to take charge of their own destiny and move into history.

In conclusion, we demand an independent forensic investigation led by an international team into the arson attack on the headquarters of STAND-Liberia.

We call on President Boakai to immediately rein in his alleged political operatives, namely Police Inspector General Gregory Coleman and LPRC Managing Director Amos Tweah. If President Boakai is suffering from dementia, cognitive fatigue, or chronic fatigue syndrome, he should step down and stop leading our country into deeper paralysis.

Done and issued on this 11th Day of December AD 2025 by the mandate of the National Executive Committee of the Revolutionary National Youth League of the Mighty Congress for Democratic Change-CDC.
