CDC Momentum Builds as Thousands Converge in Zwedru for 22ND Anniversary Celebration

ZWEDRU, Grand Gedeh County – The opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) is demonstrating renewed political strength as thousands of supporters from across Liberia have converged on Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County, for the party’s 22nd anniversary celebration.
The massive gathering, which has transformed the southeastern city into a hub of political activity, is being viewed by party loyalists as a show of unity and organizational resilience ahead of future electoral contests.
Supporters clad in CDC colors and insignia began arriving in Zwedru days before the anniversary event, creating an atmosphere marked by enthusiasm, music, and political solidarity. The celebration is being held under the theme: “ZWEDRU RISES: 2029, Victory Is the Final Destination.”
The event is expected to feature a series of speeches from prominent opposition figures, including Alternative National Congress (ANC) Political Leader Alexander B. Cummings and other senior political leaders, who are anticipated to outline their vision for Liberia’s political future and address key national issues.
Political observers say the large turnout underscores the CDC’s continued grassroots appeal despite its transition from governing party to opposition status following the 2023 elections.
Party officials have described the anniversary celebration as more than a commemoration of the CDC’s founding, insisting it represents the beginning of a renewed political movement aimed at reclaiming state power in 2029.
As the nation watches developments from Zwedru, attention is expected to focus on the messages delivered by opposition leaders and the broader implications of the gathering for Liberia’s evolving political landscape.
