49 Lawmakers Join Pro-Boakai Movement Ahead of 2029 Race
A bloc of forty-nine members of the House of Representatives has officially declared allegiance to the National Independent Movement for Boakai (NIMBO), a newly formed political movement aimed at supporting President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s bid for a second term in office.
The declaration was made over the weekend during the groundbreaking ceremony for NIMBO’s headquarters in Congo Town, where several lawmakers gathered to publicly endorse the initiative.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Representative Anthony Williams assured the ruling Unity Party that the movement poses no threat to the party’s structure or leadership. According to him, NIMBO was established solely to strengthen political support for President Boakai and rally broader national backing ahead of the 2029 presidential elections.

“There should be no fear or misunderstanding regarding this movement,” Representative Williams stated. “Our objective is to complement the efforts of the Unity Party and ensure President Boakai secures a second term.”
Rep. Williams further disclosed that Deputy House Speaker Thomas Fallah played a leading role in organizing the movement by mobilizing lawmakers within the House of Representatives to support the initiative.
In response, Unity Party National Chairman Reverend Luther Tarpeh welcomed the lawmakers’ decision to align themselves with NIMBO and pledged the party’s readiness to work collaboratively with the movement.

Rev. Tarpeh noted that the Unity Party values alliances that contribute to national development and political stability. He further revealed plans to engage the party’s committee on allied political parties and auxiliaries to establish a framework for effective cooperation with the NIMBO lawmakers.
The emergence of NIMBO is expected to shape political discussions within Liberia’s ruling establishment as preparations gradually begin for the country’s next presidential election cycle.
