UL Board of Trustees Institutes Committee to Probe Law School Dux Controversy

The Board of Trustees of the University of Liberia has instituted a specialized committee to investigate the recent controversy surrounding the selection of the dux at the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law.

The committee, headed by Thomas Romeo Quioh, Representative of District #1 in Sinoe County and Chair of the House Committee on Elections and Inauguration, along with seven other trustees, has been mandated by the Board to conduct an independent investigation into the matter.

The issue emerged following the formal announcement of Ezetta Jones-Howe as the official dux of the law school, a decision that reportedly sparked concerns among students.
Students subsequently brought the matter to the attention of the Board of Trustees, raising questions about the process that led to the announcement.

The controversy centers around two graduates of the law school, Ezetta Jones-Howe and Abraham Zaqi, whose academic standings have become the focus of the dispute.

According to Representative Quioh, the committee has been given 15 days to conduct its investigation and submit a report to the Board of Trustees. The findings, he said, will be reviewed by the board and may be made public if deemed necessary.

The investigation is expected to clarify the circumstances surrounding the dux selection and address concerns raised by members of the academic community at the law school.
