UBCAA Hosts Children’s Day Party in Gbarnga to Inspire Patriotism and Learning

In celebration of Liberia’s 178th Flag Day, the United Bong County Association in the Americas (UBCAA), Liberia Chapter, hosted a Children’s Day Party on Monday, August 25, 2025, at its program office in Gbarnga.
The event, held under the theme “Raising Patriots Through Play and Purpose,” brought together more than 200 school-going children for a day of fun, learning, and civic engagement.
Flag Day, observed annually on August 24, marks the adoption of Liberia’s national flag in 1847, shortly after the country gained independence. As the 2025 celebration fell on a Sunday, UBCAA rescheduled its event to Monday to allow more children to participate.
The program featured a blend of recreational and educational activities aimed at promoting patriotism and leadership among young people. Activities included a dance competition, egg and spoon race, as well as drawing and coloring of the Liberian flag.
Beyond the games, children also benefited from important lessons in civic education and health awareness.
Prince Eric Cooper, Regional Coordinator of NAYMOTE Liberia, delivered a presentation on “My Rights and Responsibilities, Democracy, and Elections.” He emphasized that while children have rights such as access to education, freedom of expression, and protection, they also have responsibilities including respecting others, obeying rules, and promoting peace. He further highlighted the importance of elections in strengthening democracy.
Additionally, a team from One Health in Action Liberia educated the children on personal hygiene. They stressed the importance of regular handwashing, proper dental care, and maintaining clean surroundings to prevent diseases and promote healthy living.
Speaking at the program, UBCAA Country Director, Miss Margaret Weah, said the initiative goes beyond entertainment.
“This is not just a party; it is a platform to inspire patriotism, unity, and civic responsibility among Liberia’s young generation,” she stated.
UBCAA believes that combining play with education helps nurture responsible citizens and contributes to building a peaceful and prosperous Liberia.
