Monrovia — Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Richard Nagbe Koon, Friday, June 5, 2026 paid a working visit to the Ministry of Information, marking the first time in many years that a sitting Speaker has toured the ministry’s facilities.
The visit underscores growing legislative interest in strengthening government communication infrastructure and public information services.
Upon arrival, Speaker Koon was received by Minister of Information, Hon. Jerolinmek M. Piah and team..
The Minister conducted the Speaker on a guided tour of major ongoing renovation works at the Ministry. The project, initiated under Minister Piah’s administration, is transforming the ministry’s outdated facility into a modern hub for media operations, public education, and content production.
During the tour, Minister Piah highlighted upgrades to the ministry’s studios, archival systems, and public engagement units, noting that the transformation aligns with his commitment made during his confirmation hearing to “showcase the positive works of the government to the Liberian people.
Speaking briefly after the tour, Speaker Koon commended the leadership of the Ministry for the visible transformation of the facility. He described the renovation as a “developmental step” that will improve how the government interacts with citizens.
While the Speaker did not publicly state that he would push for additional budget support for the Ministry, sources familiar with the indoor discussions believe budget enhancement for MOI was a key item on the agenda.
The Ministry has been advocating for increased funding to complete the renovation and expand its audiovisual and digital outreach capacity.
The Speaker’s visit is being viewed by communication stakeholders as a positive signal of renewed collaboration between the legislature and the ministry charged with public information and national image-building.
Minister Piah expressed appreciation for the Speaker’s presence, stating that such high-level engagement encourages accountability and motivates staff working to rebrand the Ministry’s image after years of neglect.
The Ministry of Information serves as the government’s primary channel for disseminating policy, development updates, and civic education to communities across Liberia.
