Security Forces Uncover Suspected Massive Cocaine Shipment in Margibi
Government says seizure could be Liberia’s largest as investigations continue into suspected international drug network.
MONROVIA – The Government of Liberia has announced the discovery of what it believes could be the largest drug seizure in the country’s history after security forces uncovered a massive consignment of suspected narcotics in Douazohn, Margibi County.
Making the disclosure during the Ministry of Information’s regular press briefing, Information Minister Jerolinmek M. Piah said the operation was carried out by officers of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) in collaboration with other national security institutions.
According to Minister Piah, preliminary assessments indicate that the substance is suspected to be cocaine. However, authorities are still conducting forensic examinations to confirm its identity, determine the exact quantity seized, and establish its estimated street value.
He described the operation as a significant breakthrough in Liberia’s fight against illicit drug trafficking and praised the LDEA and other security agencies for their coordinated efforts.
“The discovery reflects the government’s unwavering commitment to preventing Liberia from being used as a transit point for international drug trafficking,” Piah said, adding that security agencies remain on high alert to dismantle criminal networks involved in the illicit drug trade.
The Information Minister also announced that members of the media would be escorted to the discovery site in Douazohn following the press briefing to witness the operation firsthand.
Authorities have launched a full-scale investigation to determine the origin of the suspected narcotics, identify those behind the shipment, and establish whether the seizure is linked to a wider international drug trafficking syndicate.
The government says additional details, including the confirmed type of drug, quantity, estimated value, and possible arrests, will be released as the investigation progresses.
