Sando Rejects UP Chairman’s Call for Cabinet Reshuffle, Defends Boakai’s Team
MONROVIA – Deputy Minister for Press and Public Affairs Daniel O. Sando has pushed back against calls by Unity Party National Chairman Luther Tarpeh for an immediate Cabinet reshuffle, describing President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s current Cabinet as one of the most effective administrations since the presidency of former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
Sando’s remarks come as Chairman Tarpeh has publicly urged President Boakai to replace government officials he considers underperforming in an effort to improve the administration’s performance.
Speaking Monday on Prime FM, Sando acknowledged Tarpeh’s position as National Chairman of the ruling Unity Party but disagreed with his assessment that a Cabinet shake-up is necessary.
According to the Deputy Information Minister, the Boakai administration has demonstrated strong performance through its ongoing system of monitoring and evaluating the work of ministries and government agencies.
He pointed to the recent Presidential Performance Awards for ministries and agencies as evidence that the government is promoting accountability and rewarding results.
Sando maintained that the current Cabinet is both efficient and proactive, noting that ministers and heads of public institutions are required to submit periodic performance reports.
He said the reporting mechanism enables the President and relevant authorities to assess progress, identify weaknesses, and recommend improvements where necessary.
He argued that the administration’s emphasis on regular performance reviews and accountability has strengthened governance and enhanced the effectiveness of public service delivery.
The Deputy Minister’s comments highlight growing debate within the ruling Unity Party over the performance of President Boakai’s government, with some party officials calling for changes while others insist the current Cabinet is delivering on its mandate.
