Rep. Matthew Joe Donates US$4,500 Worth of Rice to Vulnerable Families Ahead of Independence Day

BUCHANAN, Grand Bassa County | July 26, 2026 — Grand Bassa County District #3 Representative Matthew Joe has donated 300 bags of rice valued at US$4,500 to elderly citizens, orphanages, people living with disabilities, and other vulnerable residents across his district as Liberia marks its 179th Independence Day.
The lawmaker said the rice, purchased at US$15 per bag, is intended to help struggling families celebrate the national holiday with dignity and joy.
Representative Joe also called on Liberians to make the Independence Day celebration one of peace, unity, and patriotism.
“Independence Day is not a time for fighting or insulting one another. It is a day for every Liberian to celebrate with a joyful heart, respect each other, and show love for our country,” he said.
The donation has been welcomed as a timely gesture aimed at bringing relief and hope to vulnerable members of the community during the national celebration.
