Rep. Koinah Boosts Information Access in Bong Electoral District #1 with Over US$10,000 Radio Equipment Donation

Residents of Kokoyah District in Bong County are set to regain a vital source of information and community connection following a significant donation from Electoral District #1 Representative, Prince K. Koinah.

The lawmaker has provided modern broadcasting equipment valued at over US$10,000 to revive Radio Kokoyah, a community radio station that has been off air since 2023. The station, owned and operated by local residents, is expected to resume operations in the coming days.

For many in the district, the return of Radio Kokoyah represents more than just entertainment—it restores a trusted platform for local news, education, and community dialogue. In rural areas where access to timely information is often limited, community radio plays a key role in keeping people informed and connected.

The donated equipment includes a 1-kilowatt transmitter, a 16-channel Yamaha mixer, four microphones, high-quality headphones, a desktop computer set, microphone arms, studio chairs, and other essential materials needed for modern broadcasting.

With these new resources, the station will not only restart operations but also expand its signal to reach parts of Bong, Bassa, and Nimba Counties, increasing access to important information for surrounding communities.

Speaking during the presentation, Representative Koinah emphasized the importance of community radio in development, noting that it helps amplify local voices, share important updates, and promote community engagement.

Community leaders, including Elder Duah Kangar, Mr. Obediah Zohr, Mr. Marcuson Nyeah, and Papa Quoi, received the equipment on behalf of the district. They expressed appreciation for the support and called on the station’s management to use the platform to promote peace, unity, and reconciliation.

Radio Kokoyah Station Manager, Victor C.B. Smith, described the donation as timely and impactful. He noted that the station has faced serious challenges since going off air and assured that the equipment will be properly maintained.

He also pledged the station’s commitment to ethical and responsible journalism.

Installation of the equipment is currently underway by a hired technician, and test transmissions are expected to begin soon.

As Radio Kokoyah prepares to return, residents remain hopeful that the station will once again serve as a strong voice for the community and contribute meaningfully to local development.
