Beijing, China – October 13, 2025:
Chinese President Xi Jinping has urged world leaders to rekindle the spirit of the historic Beijing World Conference on Women and take bold steps to accelerate global progress toward gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Speaking at the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women held in Beijing to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the 1995 Fourth World Conference on Women, President Xi called for collective action to create an environment where women across the world can thrive in peace, equality, and dignity.

“Women in every corner of the world are bound together by a shared future,” President Xi told world leaders and representatives gathered for the ceremony. “We must safeguard peace, promote cooperation, and empower women to shine in this new era of global modernization.”

A Renewed Global Vision

The Chinese leader outlined four key proposals for advancing women’s all-round development worldwide:

1. Creating a peaceful and enabling environment for women’s growth and participation.
2. Building stronger momentum for women’s high-quality development through science, innovation, and economic inclusion.
3. Strengthening governance frameworks that protect women’s rights and ensure equal participation in decision-making.
4. Deepening international cooperation through the United Nations and other global platforms to support women in developing countries.

President Xi noted that while the world has made significant progress since 1995 when the landmark Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action set global goals for gender equality millions of women and girls still face poverty, discrimination, and violence.

“Over 600 million women and girls remain trapped in conflict and hardship, while the gender digital divide continues to widen,” he lamented, calling for renewed unity and action among nations.

China’s Commitment

Highlighting China’s domestic progress, President Xi said women now make up over 40 percent of the workforce, more than half of internet entrepreneurs, and a majority of China’s Olympic medalists in recent years.

He announced new initiatives to further global cooperation on women’s development, including:

• A $10 million donation to UN Women;
• $100 million from China’s Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund for projects benefiting women and girls;
• 1,000 “small and beautiful” livelihood programs targeting female beneficiaries;
• Training and exchange opportunities for 50,000 women from around the world; and
• The establishment of a Global Center for Women’s Capacity Building in China.

Carrying Forward the Spirit of Beijing

President Xi emphasized that China remains steadfast in its vision of a “shared future for humanity” one where women everywhere have the opportunity to realize their potential and contribute to global progress.

“As an ancient Chinese saying goes, ‘Steadfast dedication yields an enduring fragrance,’” he said. “Standing at this new historic starting point, let us carry forward the spirit of the Beijing Conference and create a brighter future for all women.”

The Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women marks three decades since the world gathered in Beijing in 1995 to set a transformative agenda for women’s rights, equality, and empowerment.
