President Boakai Commissions Buchanan Science Laboratory Ahead of Independence Day Celebration

BUCHANAN, Grand Bassa County | July 25, 2026 — As Grand Bassa prepares to host Liberia’s 179th Independence Day celebrations, another significant investment in education was unveiled with the official dedication of the Buchanan Science Laboratory, a modern facility expected to strengthen science education for students across the county.
President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. formally commissioned the laboratory by cutting the ceremonial ribbon, marking the facility’s official opening. The event brought together Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung, Education Minister Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah, senior government officials, local authorities, educators, students, and community members.
The science laboratory was constructed through the initiative of Grand Bassa County Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, who described the project as an investment in the future of the county’s young people. She said improving access to quality science education is essential to preparing students for careers in medicine, engineering, technology, and other critical fields.
Speaking during the ceremony, President Boakai praised the initiative, noting that investments in education remain central to Liberia’s national development agenda. He encouraged students to make full use of the new facility and challenged educators to inspire the next generation of innovators and leaders.
Residents and education stakeholders welcomed the laboratory as a major step toward improving practical science instruction, expressing hope that it will provide students with hands-on learning opportunities that were previously unavailable.
The commissioning of the Buchanan Science Laboratory adds to a series of development projects inaugurated in Grand Bassa ahead of this year’s Independence Day celebrations, reflecting ongoing efforts to expand educational opportunities and strengthen public infrastructure across the county.
