‎President Boakai Calls for National Unity, Urges Liberians to Put Country Above Differences

‎‎BUCHANAN, Grand Bassa County | July 25, 2026 — President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. has appealed to Liberians to stand together as one people, urging citizens to rise above political and religious divisions and work collectively to build a safer, stronger, and more prosperous nation.

‎‎Speaking at the 179th Independence Day Thanksgiving and Intercessory Prayer Service held at the Buchanan Central Mosque on Friday, the President emphasized that Liberia’s future depends on unity, patriotism, and the willingness of every citizen to play a role in protecting the country.

‎‎President Boakai expressed concern over the growing threat of drug trafficking and substance abuse, warning that such activities not only endanger the nation’s youth but also damage Liberia’s reputation on the international stage. He stressed that safeguarding the country is a shared responsibility that goes beyond law enforcement agencies.

‎‎”The responsibility of protecting Liberia belongs to all of us,” the President said, urging citizens not to shield individuals whose actions threaten national peace and security.

‎‎The Liberian leader also called on citizens to embrace their national identity before their political or religious affiliations. He praised the long-standing peaceful relationship between Christians and Muslims, describing Liberia’s religious harmony as one of the country’s greatest strengths.

‎‎According to President Boakai, differences in faith should never become barriers to national unity, adding that patriotism must remain the common value that binds Liberians together.

‎‎He further encouraged citizens to support those entrusted with leadership, noting that national development requires cooperation, humility, and respect for one another. He reminded Liberians that lasting progress can only be achieved when the country works together toward shared goals.

‎‎Turning his attention to the nation’s future, President Boakai expressed confidence in Liberia’s enormous potential. He pointed to the country’s abundant natural resources and energetic young population as key assets capable of driving economic growth and national transformation if properly supported.

‎‎The President also commended Liberia’s Muslim community for its continued contribution to peacebuilding, religious tolerance, and national development. He praised Muslim leaders for fostering dialogue and strengthening the spirit of coexistence among the country’s diverse religious communities.

‎‎As Liberia prepares to celebrate its 179th Independence Day, President Boakai concluded with a renewed call for unity, urging citizens to believe in their country, support one another, and continue praying for lasting peace and progress.
