NPHIL Intensifies Ebola Preparedness with Visit to the Free Port of Monrovia

Monrovia — The National Public Health Institute of Liberia-NPHIL has continued its nationwide Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) preparedness assessment with a strategic visit to the Free Port of Monrovia on June 16, 2026.
The Interim Director-General of NPHIL, Dr. Sia Wata Camanor, led the delegation alongside Port Health Coordinator Phebe Thomas as part of efforts to evaluate Liberia’s readiness to prevent, detect, and respond to any potential Ebola outbreak.
Upon arrival, the team was received by Rupert Calvin Hoff Jr., who provided an operational briefing on port security and ongoing collaboration with health authorities.
The delegation also received technical updates from Port Health Supervisor Earnest Jappah, who detailed surveillance systems, screening procedures, and emergency response protocols in place at the country’s busiest seaport.
During the tour of the port clinic, Dr. Camanor reviewed infection prevention measures, case management readiness, and logistical capacity for responding to public health emergencies. She emphasized the importance of vigilance, coordination, and strict adherence to health protocols.
The assessment is part of broader national preparedness efforts being strengthened in collaboration with local and international partners following renewed regional concerns about Ebola risks.
Officials say the exercise is aimed at identifying strengths, closing gaps, and reinforcing Liberia’s public health emergency response system at key entry points.
