NAFFAA Host Independence Fish Market Day in Buchanan Ahead of July 26 Celebration

Buchanan, Grand Bassa County – July 25, 2026 – The National Fairground in Buchanan came alive with excitement on Saturday as Orange Money Liberia, in partnership with the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NAFFAA), hosted a special Independence Fish Market Day to welcome President Joseph Nyuma Boakai ahead of Liberia’s 179th Independence Day celebration.
The event attracted hundreds of residents, fishmongers, fishermen, traders, and visitors who gathered to celebrate the country’s approaching Independence Day while supporting Liberia’s fisheries sector through a vibrant community fish market.
Fresh fish and other seafood products were displayed for sale as local vendors interacted with customers in a lively atmosphere filled with music, cultural performances, and patriotic spirit. The initiative provided an opportunity for fishing communities to boost their businesses while celebrating one of Liberia’s most important national holidays.
President Boakai received a warm welcome from the crowd upon his arrival at the fairground, where citizens waved Liberian flags and applauded as preparations continued for the official Independence Day celebrations on July 26.
Organizers said the collaboration between Orange Money Liberia and NAFFAA was aimed at promoting local fisheries, empowering fish sellers through increased market opportunities, and bringing communities together in celebration of Liberia’s independence.
The Fish Market Day reflected the importance of partnerships between the private sector and government institutions in supporting local businesses and creating economic opportunities for ordinary Liberians. As the nation prepares to celebrate 179 years of independence, the event highlighted the resilience of Liberia’s fishing communities and the vital role they continue to play in the country’s economy.
