Liberian Journalist and OKFM News Editor Marka Davis Calls For Unity as RAL Elects New Leadership
Monrovia, Liberia — April 21, 2026 — Liberian journalist and OKFM News Editor Marka Davis has called for unity and renewed purpose within the Reporters Association of Liberia (RAL) following the election of a new corps of national officers.
The RAL, the largest auxiliary body of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL), concluded a closely watched internal election aimed at strengthening leadership and restoring cohesion within the association.
Emerging from the process, Webster Clayeh was elected President, with Kruah Thompson as Vice President. The new leadership team also includes Amb. Blamo N-Toe as Secretary-General, Princess M. Kamara as Assistant Secretary-General, and Cynthia Quinisier as Financial Secretary.
Call for Unity and Collective Leadership
In the wake of the election, Davis urged the newly elected officials to rise above division and deliver on the promises made during their campaigns.
“This is the time for unity, not division,” Davis emphasized. “All camps and blocs should now be considered dissolved. The focus must shift to building one strong and united association.”
He stressed that the credibility and effectiveness of the RAL depend on its ability to operate as a cohesive body, rather than one fragmented by competing interests.
Warning Against Division
Davis cautioned that internal divisions and factional loyalties have, in recent times, weakened the association’s influence and undermined its ability to advocate effectively for journalists across the country.
He warned that if such patterns persist, they could stall progress and erode confidence in the institution.
“When divisions take root, institutions suffer,” he noted. “RAL must move forward as one.”
Appeal to Defeated Candidates
The veteran journalist also called on candidates who were unsuccessful in the election to accept the results in good faith and support the incoming leadership.
According to him, such a move would strengthen democratic culture within the association and set a positive example for future electoral processes.
Opportunity for Renewal
Davis concluded by urging the new leadership to restore the voice, integrity, and relevance of the Reporters Association of Liberia.
He noted that the association now stands at a critical moment one that presents an opportunity to rebuild trust and reposition itself as a strong, independent advocate for reporters nationwide.
“RAL has a chance to rise again,” he said. “The responsibility now lies with its leaders.”
Reporters say the success of the new leadership will depend largely on its ability to unite members and deliver meaningful reforms in the months ahead.
