Monrovia, Liberia — A public family dispute has escalated into a national controversy after the Blamo Koon Family issued a strong warning to Madam Cecelia Kpor Koon, accusing her of spreading false claims against House Speaker Richard N. Koon.

The family, through its spokesperson Lawrence Sherman, rejected allegations circulating publicly and on social media suggesting that Madam Kpor Koon is married to the Speaker or has legal entitlement to his properties. The family insists the claims are entirely false and damaging, stressing that Madam Kpor Koon is the Speaker’s elder sister and nothing more.

According to Sherman, the family decided to respond publicly after what it described as repeated and reckless misrepresentations that risk undermining both the Koon family’s reputation and the integrity of the Office of the Speaker.

“These allegations are not only untrue, but appear designed to discredit the Speaker and expose the family to public embarrassment,” Sherman said, warning that the matter could move to court if the claims persist.

The controversy has raised concerns about the growing use of social media to air personal and family disputes involving public officials. The family cautioned media institutions and the public against repeating unverified assertions, arguing that such narratives can unfairly damage public trust in state institutions.

Sherman emphasized that any disagreement within the family should be handled through traditional dialogue and mediation, not public campaigns. He further called on Madam Kpor Koon to submit herself to a formal family meeting in line with cultural norms of reconciliation and respect.

The family warned that failure to halt the claims could result in legal action, signaling a hardening stance as the dispute continues to draw public attention.

Despite the sharp tone of the statement, the Blamo Koon Family said it remains committed to peace and unity, but will act decisively to protect its name and the dignity of public office if the situation escalates further.
