Justice Ministry Confirms US$317.6 Million Suspected Cocaine Seizure in Duazon

MONROVIA, Liberia – Attorney General and Minister of Justice Cllr. Oswald Tweh has confirmed the seizure of approximately 3,971 kilograms of suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of US$317.68 million during a major security operation in Duazon, Margibi County.

Speaking Wednesday, the Justice Minister said the drugs were discovered on July 21 after the Joint National Security Investigative Task Force executed a court-approved search warrant at a property in the VOA Community along the Roberts International Airport Highway.

Two foreign nationals, one Serbian and another holding dual Colombian and Spanish citizenship, were arrested in connection with the case and are assisting investigators. Authorities also recovered a firearm, drone, GPS tracking devices, diving suits, Starlink equipment, and other materials believed to be linked to the operation.

Cllr. Tweh said the investigation has uncovered what appears to be a sophisticated narcotics trafficking network that may have been operating in Liberia for more than six years. He added that the Duazon property and the truck used to transport the suspected drugs will be confiscated under the Amended Controlled Drug and Substance Act of 2023.

The government urged the public to avoid speculation, stressing that those under investigation remain innocent until proven guilty. It also reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that anyone found responsible, regardless of status or nationality, will face the full weight of the law.
