House Leadership Orders Ambassador At-Large Kouyateh to Reappear Alongside Minister of State
Following the appearance of Ambassador At-Large Sheikh Moustapha Kouyaateh before the leadership of the House of Representatives on Monday, the House has instructed the envoy to reappear before its leadership along with the Minister of State for Presidential Affairs.
The House leadership further requested that the Ambassador At-Large present his official letter of appointment to the current post during the next appearance.
According to the House, an official communication will be sent to the Minister of State Hon. Samuel A. Stevquoah requesting his presence together with the Ambassador At-Large to provide clarity on statements allegedly made by the envoy accusing members of the Legislature of receiving bribes from European interests in exchange for the passage of concession agreements.
Members of the House leadership described the allegations as serious and emphasized the need for the Ambassador At-Large to substantiate and explain the comments attributed to him.
The House maintained that diplomats and ambassadors representing Liberia abroad are expected to promote investment opportunities, strengthen bilateral relations, and project a positive image of the country to the international community.
The leadership further noted that statements deemed damaging to the integrity and reputation of state institutions have the potential to undermine investor confidence and national credibility.
The House of Representatives reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the protection of the country’s democratic institutions while ensuring that public officials remain responsible for statements made in the discharge of their duties.
