Former Montserrado County District #8 Representative and senior member of the opposition Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), Acarous Moses Gray, has sharply responded to recent remarks made by the Chairman of the ruling Unity Party (UP), Rev. Luther Tarpeh.

In a strongly worded statement, the CDC stalwart described the Unity Party as “the worst at governance” and predicted that the ruling establishment will suffer a “devastating first-round defeat” in the 2029 general and presidential elections.

“As a CDC Frontline General, I want to remind the Chairman of the Unity Party that his institution is worst at governance,” Gray said. “They will be the first ruling party since 1997 to receive an unpleasant, democratic, and devastating first-round defeat without a runoff election.”

Gray, a vocal political figure known for his fierce loyalty to the CDC and former President George Weah, declared that his party will reclaim state power with an outright victory in the first round.

“The CDC will be the party to obtain that first-round absolute majority victory come 2029,” he asserted, adding a defiant message to Rev. Tarpeh: “Mr. Chairman, we shall meet at the Battle of Philippi.”

The former lawmaker’s remarks come in response to Unity Party Chairman Rev. Tarpeh’s recent statement that the CDC would “never win elections under his watch” a declaration that has sparked heated exchanges between supporters of both political parties.

As Liberia’s political temperature begins to rise ahead of the 2029 elections, Gray’s comments underscore the growing tension between the ruling Unity Party and the opposition CDC, setting the stage for what could become a fierce political showdown in the coming years.
