Foreign News: Nepal Prime Minister Resigns After Deadly Protests Over Social Media Ban

Nepal’s Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli resigned on Tuesday after days of violent protests led mostly by young people angry about corruption and a recent social media ban.

The protests turned deadly, with 19 people killed and 100 injured after police used tear gas and rubber bullets to stop demonstrators from storming the parliament. Protesters also set fire to government buildings, including parts of the parliament, the President’s residence, and the Prime Minister’s home.

The government had banned social media, which triggered the unrest. Although the ban was later lifted, the protests had already spread across the country.
