CDC WOMEN’S LEAGUE MONTSERRADO COUNTY CONDEMNS DEPUTY MINISTER FATIMA BINTU SIRLEAF’S REPORTED INSULTS TOWARD CRITICS

The Women’s League of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), Montserrado County Chapter, is calling out what it describes as disrespectful and troubling remarks reportedly made by the newly confirmed Deputy Minister for Urban Affairs, Madam Fatima Bintu Sirleaf, toward citizens who questioned her confirmation by the Liberian Senate.

According to the CDC Women’s League, public officials—especially those just stepping into national leadership—have a responsibility to carry themselves with humility and respect, even when responding to criticism. The group says the comments attributed to Deputy Minister Sirleaf show a lack of regard for ordinary Liberians and the democratic right of citizens to express their views about national leaders.

“As leaders, we must always remember that we are servants of the people,” said the Chairlady of the CDC Women’s League, Montserrado County. “Insulting citizens because they questioned your qualifications or performance is not the behavior the public expects from someone in high office.”

The Women’s League noted that criticism is a natural part of leadership, and responding to it with harsh words only widens the gap between government officials and the people they are meant to serve.

The CDC Women’s League is therefore:

Condemning the reported insults made by Deputy Minister Sirleaf:

Calling on the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Government of Liberia to remind appointed officials of the importance of professionalism and respect; Encouraging Deputy Minister Sirleaf to address the concerns raised and show leadership by engaging citizens respectfully; and Urging all public officials to uphold high standards of public conduct, especially in their communication with the Liberian people.

“We are women, mothers, and community leaders. We believe in respect, discipline, and service,” the Chairlady added. “No official should use their platform to talk down to the same people they rely on for support and cooperation.”

The CDC Women’s League reaffirms its commitment to promoting responsible leadership, protecting the voice of the people, and standing against any behavior that undermines public trust.
