EPS ARRESTS AMBULANCE DRIVER OVER ALLEGED RECKLESS DRIVING NEAR PRESIDENTIAL MOTORCADE

MONROVIA – An ambulance driver attached to the Liberia National Fire Service has been detained following an incident involving President Joseph Boakai’s motorcade, according to a statement issued Friday by the Executive Protection Service (EPS).

The EPS identified the driver as Prince Blay and alleged that he was operating the ambulance at a high speed and failed to yield to the presidential convoy, creating what authorities described as a potentially dangerous situation near the President’s vehicle.

According to the statement, officers of the Liberia National Police’s Police Support Unit (PSU), who were accompanying the motorcade, intercepted the ambulance and took the driver into custody. The EPS further stated that preliminary findings indicate the ambulance was not transporting a patient or responding to an emergency call at the time of the incident.

The driver has since been turned over to the Liberia National Police for further investigation. Authorities say he could face charges depending on the outcome of the investigation.

While the EPS has outlined its account of the incident, the driver’s version of events was not immediately available, and it remains unclear whether he has obtained legal representation. The Liberia National Fire Service has also not publicly commented on the matter.
