EPA Executive Director Holds Consultative Meeting with Bong County Chiefs and Elders

GBARNGA, Bong County – The Executive Director of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of Liberia, Dr. Emmanuel K. Urey Yarkpawolo, over the weekend held a consultative meeting with chiefs and elders of Bong County in Gbarnga to provide updates on the agency’s activities, achievements, and ongoing efforts to protect the environment across the country.

Speaking at the opening of the meeting, Dr. Yarkpawolo said the engagement was organized in response to a request from the county’s traditional leaders, who wanted to gain a better understanding of the EPA’s work and environmental programs.

He emphasized that chiefs and elders are key partners in environmental protection because they play an important role in educating their communities, safeguarding natural resources, and promoting environmental awareness at the local level.

Dr. Yarkpawolo also reaffirmed the EPA’s commitment to working closely with traditional leaders and local communities to address environmental challenges and promote sustainable development throughout Liberia.

Speaking on behalf of the chiefs and elders, Chief Arthur Dowah expressed appreciation to Dr. Yarkpawolo and the EPA for meeting with them. He commended the agency for its efforts to protect Liberia’s environment and encouraged the EPA to continue holding regular consultative meetings with traditional leaders.

Chief Dowah noted that stronger collaboration between the EPA and local communities will help improve environmental protection efforts and contribute to a cleaner, healthier, and safer environment for all Liberians.
