Monrovia, Liberia – The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of Liberia informs the public that on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, Bea Mountain Mining Corporation (BMMC) management notified the Agency that technicians observed several dead fish at a routine sampling site along Marvoe Creek, a tributary to the Mafa River in Grand Cape Mount County.
Upon receipt of the report, the EPA immediately dispatched a team of environmental technicians and inspectors to conduct an on-site assessment. The team is currently undertaking the following actions:
– Visual inspection of the affected area
– Collection of water, sediment, and fish samples for laboratory analysis
– In-situ measurement of key water quality parameters
– Engagement with relevant stakeholders to gather preliminary information
The objective of the investigation is to determine the cause and extent of the reported fish mortality and to assess potential environmental or public health risks.
The EPA strongly advises the public to avoid harvesting, handling, selling, or consuming any dead fish or other aquatic species from Marvoe Creek or adjoining water bodies until further notice. This precautionary measure is necessary to safeguard public health while the investigation is ongoing.
The EPA is treating the situation with urgency and in accordance with Liberia’s environmental laws and established monitoring protocols. A detailed technical report will be prepared upon completion of field investigations and laboratory analyses.
The public will be kept informed of findings and any necessary regulatory actions.
