Court Orders Transfer of Former CDC Property to Businessman Nelson Oniyama
Monrovia, Liberia – The Sixth Judicial Circuit Civil Law Court has ordered the compulsory transfer of a prime property formerly occupied by the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) to Liberian businessman Dr. C. Nelson Oniyama, following a legal battle over the ownership of the land.
In a final ruling handed down on June 8, 2026, Assigned Circuit Judge Nelson B. Chineh directed the Intestate Estate of the late Martha Stubberfield Bernard and its administrator, Ebrima Dempster, to convey ten lots of land located along Tubman Boulevard, opposite the Cuttington Graduate School in Sinkor, to Dr. Oniyama.
The court’s decision followed a petition for specific performance filed by Dr. Oniyama, who argued that he had fulfilled all obligations under an agreement to purchase the property.
According to the ruling, evidence presented before the court established that Dr. Oniyama paid US$132,000 for the property. Judge Chineh noted that two separate Memoranda of Understanding executed between the parties constituted a valid and legally enforceable contract.
The court further held that the estate’s failure to transfer ownership after receiving payment amounted to a breach of the agreement, thereby warranting judicial intervention.
As a result, the court ordered the estate and its administrator to immediately execute all necessary legal documents to transfer ownership of the ten lots to Dr. Oniyama in accordance with the terms of the agreement.
The property, which previously served as a facility associated with the former ruling CDC, occupies a strategic location on Tubman Boulevard and is considered one of the notable real estate assets in the Sinkor area.
The ruling brings an end to a longstanding dispute over the property and reinforces the court’s authority to compel the enforcement of legally binding contractual agreements when parties fail to honor their obligations.
