Bong County University Takes Over Sumo Moye Memorial Technical College Assets

Gbarnga, Bong County – March 28, 2026 – Bong County University (BCU) has officially assumed ownership of the facilities and assets of Sumo Moye Memorial Technical College (SMMTC) following the signing of a Deed of Gift and Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the institution and Prince Kermue Moye Sr..
The agreement, signed on March 28, 2026, in Gbarnga City, formalizes the transfer of the college and its properties to BCU as a contribution to strengthen higher education in Bong County and Liberia as a whole.
Under the terms of the agreement, Senator Moye, the founder and owner of Sumo Moye Memorial Technical College, donated the institution and its assets to Bong County University without any financial, political, or socio-economic benefit.
Assets Included in the Donation
The donation covers several important facilities and resources that were part of the technical college. These include:
An administrative building currently used by the college administration
An academic building for teaching and learning
A nursing building
A simulation laboratory used for practical training
Library resources and academic materials
A nursing program bus used for transportation and field activities
New Name and Structure
According to the agreement, the institution will no longer operate as Sumo Moye Memorial Technical College. Instead, it will be integrated into Bong County University and will operate under a new name:
“Sumo Moye College of Health and Natural Sciences of Bong County University.”
The university has agreed to maintain the name in honor of the legacy and purpose for which the institution was originally established.
Purpose of the Donation
The agreement outlines several reasons for the transfer, particularly as Bong County Technical College was recently granted university status by the Government of Liberia.
The donation is expected to help:
Expand academic programs
and degree offerings at Bong County University
Improve research capacity by providing additional infrastructure and resources
Strengthen operational efficiency and reduce duplication of services
Increase access to educational opportunities for students
Enhance the reputation and competitiveness of the university within Liberia’s higher education sector
Dissolution of SMMTC
As part of the agreement, Sumo Moye Memorial Technical College will immediately cease to exist as a separate institution upon the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding.
All facilities, assets, and programs will now fall under the academic supervision and administrative authority of Bong County University.
Conditions of the Agreement
The MoU states that the donated assets must be used strictly for educational and academic purposes. Bong County University will also be responsible for maintaining and improving the facilities when necessary.
Additionally, the agreement contains a clause stating that if the university fails to comply with the terms of the agreement, ownership of the donated institution will revert to Senator Moye or his heirs.
The agreement was signed by Senator Prince Kermue Moye, Sr. as the Donor, and by Dr. Alfredson W. Taikerweyah, Sr., President of Bong County University, representing the university as the Donee.
The move is widely seen as a major step toward strengthening higher education infrastructure in Bong County and expanding opportunities for students pursuing careers in health and natural sciences.
