Alleged LDEA Director Resignation Letter Declared Fake; Agency Denies Authenticity
MONROVIA, Liberia – The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has dismissed as false and misleading a resignation letter circulating on social media purporting to have been written by the agency’s Officer-in-Charge (OIC) and Interim Director, Fitzgerald T.M. Biago.
The document, dated June 19, 2026, claims that Mr. Biago tendered his resignation to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, citing alleged death threats against himself and his family linked to ongoing investigations into a major narcotics seizure at Roberts International Airport.
However, when contacted by THE CLOSING ARGUMENT on Friday, the LDEA’s Communications Officer categorically denied the authenticity of the letter, describing it as a fabrication intended to mislead the public.
“The letter is fake, false and does not represent any official communication from the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency,” the communications official stated.
The agency emphasized that Mr. Biago remains in his position and continues to perform his duties as Officer-in-Charge and Interim Director of the LDEA.
The alleged resignation letter quickly gained traction online due to claims that the LDEA chief was stepping down over security concerns arising from investigations into a reported multi-million-dollar drug seizure. The document further alleged that threats from criminal networks had forced the agency head to relinquish his post to protect his family.
LDEA officials have urged the public to disregard the document and rely only on information released through the agency’s official communication channels.
The circulation of the purported resignation letter comes amid heightened public interest in ongoing narcotics investigations and recent calls for greater transparency in drug-related cases.
As of press time, no official resignation had been submitted or announced by the Government of Liberia or the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency, according to LDEA authorities.
