478 Road Crashes Claim 71 Lives in Three Months LNP Report Says
Monrovia, April 3, 2026 – The Liberia National Police (LNP) has reported a worrying rise in road traffic accidents across the country, with 478 crashes recorded between January and March 2026, leaving at least 71 people dead and 309 others injured.
According to the LNP’s latest traffic report, March alone accounted for a sharp spike in incidents, with 186 cases the highest recorded within the three-month period. The month also saw the largest number of fatalities and injuries, signaling growing concerns over road safety nationwide.
The report highlights that car-to-car collisions were the most common type of accidents, followed by motorcycle-related crashes. Combined, these two categories made up nearly 70 percent of all reported cases during the period under review.
Geographically, Montserrado County topped the list with 279 recorded accidents, far exceeding other counties. Nimba, River Gee, and Margibi counties followed, though with significantly lower figures.
The data further shows that vehicle operators were the most affected group, while males accounted for the majority of both deaths and injuries.
In response, the Liberia National Police is calling on all road users including drivers, motorcyclists, and pedestrians to strictly comply with traffic laws. Authorities say efforts are ongoing to strengthen enforcement and introduce additional safety measures aimed at reducing the growing number of road accidents.
